Question:
Will I get scars from having facelift surgery?
Answer:
The amount of scarring depends upon the type of facelift you elect to have. However, in most cases, Dr. Rizk takes special care to place the incision inside the ear to minimize visibility. This allows the hair to be worn up with no visible scarring. Also, Dr. Rizk uses a 3D endoscopic technique, which allows for smaller incisions, as well as enhanced healing with less swelling and bruising.

Question:
How can you reduce swelling after facelift?
Answer:
The best way to minimize swelling after a facelift is to actually take precautions before surgery. All NSAID’s such as ibuprofen, Alleve and Excedrin, which cause bleeding and bruising, as well as fish oil and herbal supplements, which may increase bleeding and bruising, should be avoided for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. In the first 48 hours, a cooling face mask can be worn to minimize swelling and if a neck lift was performed a neck garment should be worn for approximately two weeks at night. Various herbal medications, such as arnica Montana and bromelin can be used pre and post surgery to minimize bruising.

Question:
How long is the healing process after facelift surgery?
Answer:
Some swelling and bruising will be evident following surgery. After the dressings are removed the day following the procedure, some swelling will be evident; however you will be socially presentable in about 1 week. Stitches are removed in 7 to 10 days. Pain in general is minimal, but you will feel some tightness in the neck and face for the first two weeks following facelift and neck lift surgery. Makeup can be worn in 7 days. It is recommended that hair be dyed prior to surgery, so as not to irritate incisions in the immediate period following a facelift.
